Personal Development and Careers
Overview
INTENT
At Fulbrook School, PD is at the core of what we do and enables our children to become independent, confident, healthy and responsible members of society, as well as developing the “whole child” intellectually, morally, socially and spiritually. Through our whole-school approach to PD, it is our belief that excellence in these areas will lead to excellence across the curriculum and beyond in later life. PD is taught across the school from Year 5 to Year 8 (and onwards) on a weekly basis and as a school, we follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme.
Our PD curriculum equips children with relevant and meaningful content, which is supported through a strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health. With an ever changing society, we are able to provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and support them in playing a positive role in contributing to the school and the wider community. Weaving through the heart of our PD teaching, is a commitment to enhancing and promoting our core values; Aspiration, Perseverance, Compassion, Respect, Responsibility and Trust.
IMPLEMENTATION
Our whole curriculum is shaped by our school vision which aims to enable all children, regardless of background, ability, additional needs, and to flourish to become the very best version of themselves they can possibly be. We teach the National Curriculum, supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children:
Jigsaw PSHE directs our aim on developing the “whole child” through a spiral curriculum approach to developing knowledge, skills and understanding in the areas of;
Being Me in My World
Celebrating Difference
Dreams and Goals
Healthy Me
Relationships
Changing Me
IMPACT
What will this look like? By the time children leave our school they will: For all children to have a ready willingness and ability to try new things, push themselves and persevere.
To have a good understanding of how to stay safe, healthy and develop good relationships.
To have an appreciation of what it means to be a positive member of a diverse, multicultural society.
To have a strong self-awareness, interlinked with compassion of others.
Provider Access Policy
INTRODUCTION
This policy statement sets out the school’s arrangements for managing the access of providers to students at the school for the purpose of giving them information about the provider’s education or training offer. This complies with the school’s legal obligations under Section 42B of the Education Act 1997.
PUPIL ENTITLEMENT
All pupils in Year 8 are entitled:
to find out about technical education qualifications and apprenticeships opportunities, as part of a careers programme which provides information on the full range of education and training options available at each transition point;
to hear from a range of local providers about the opportunities they offer, including technical education and apprenticeships – through options events, assemblies and group discussions and taster events;
to understand how to make applications for the full range of academic and technical courses.
A provider wishing to request access should contact Mrs C Leach, PHSE and Careers Subject Leader, by emailing cleach@fulbrook.school
OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACCESS
A careers morning organised in the Summer term, integrated into the school careers programme, will offer providers an opportunity to come into school to speak to pupils, however alternative encounters may be organised on an ad hoc basis.
Please speak to our Careers Leader to identify the most suitable opportunity for you.
As the school transitions from Middle to extended Secondary, this information will be updated to summarise our careers programme for Years 8, 9, 10 and 11. Our curriculum will be in line with the Gatsby Career Benchmarks and The Baker Clause and will be updated each Autumn term.
